La Vie Nostalgique

Music and Lyrics by Sarah Jane Scouten
The Cape (2014)

Well you've just moved to town and there's snow on the ground

But you're safe to wear fur in the streets

Hardwood floors, cupboard doors, rent too cheap to ignore

And the neighbours and bonafide beats

And much to your delight, you find a show on every night

Will it be burlesque, free jazz or country?

With the burns on your hands from your cast-iron pans

You're living la vie nostalgique

The man that I love wasn't sent from above

He's a bike messenger in St-Henri

He sings me the blues, and he makes his own shoes

From the parts that we'd rather not eat
And when I rest my head upon his four-poster bed
He'll read to me Dostoyevsky
It's all leather-bound books, slicked-back hair and good looks

We're living la vie nostalgique

Well I think you've been told "out with new, in with old"

Over wine and baguettes in the park
Where there's sword-fighting nerds, racoons, squirrels and birds
Are gorging themselves after dark
And it still gives me a thrill, the crucifix on the hill
Out-shining the stars in the sky
All for one, one for all, expats of Montreal
If you're living la vie nostalgique!
All for one, one for all, expats of Montreal
If you're living la vie nostalgique!

We're all living la vie nostalgique...
